Slow Web Movement: The Case for Slower Tools and Browsers

The Fast Web Is Exhausting

Everything about the modern web is designed to be faster: faster loading, faster scrolling, faster notifications, faster responses. We celebrate sites that load in milliseconds, apps that update in real-time, and tools that sync instantly across devices. But at what cost? We have optimized for the speed of light while forgetting the speed of thought.

The fast web is creating a culture of impatience, distraction, and superficial engagement. It is a world where “dwell time” is a metric to be manipulated and “engagement” is often synonymous with “addiction.” When every site is fighting for your immediate attention with autoplaying videos, intrusive pop-ups, and infinite scroll, the web stops being a tool and starts being a Skinner box.
